17 Dec It’s the end of the world as we know it.
Friday is the end of the world. At least that is what some people are saying.
Those of us who believe such things think there is going to be some cataclysmic event that will change the world on Friday like a meteor storm or an earthquake. But sometimes the actions of a single person can change our world just as dramatically. Certainly Adam Lanza changed the world, and not just in Newtown CT. By taking the lives of babies he shattered our illusion of personal safety. Hopefully he will help to change gun control laws, too.
But it doesn’t have to be a catastrophe to change the world. Who knew that an iPhone, or its big daddy the iPad or its son, the iPad Mini would change the world? Each one of those products is revolutionary and is a change people want. The Apple Store is sold out of Minis. I know. I’m trying to find one for myself. Technology totally changes the world as we know it…every second of every day.
So when you think about it, every day is the end of the world as we know it. Every day there is some new invention, or some new tragedy or just something that totally redefines how we live and think in the world.
And so it follows that some small action, some small change…in how you think about your business, or how you market to potential clients, or how you go about servicing them…those changes too can redefine how you live and think and, more importantly, thrive in the world.
Not everybody needs a wholesale change like I just went through. But everybody needs to think about what they will change in the New Year. For themselves and for their businesses. And then act on it.
Change is always good, even if it doesn’t much feel like it when we are going through it. And it’s bound to be better if we orchestrate it ourselves, instead of letting the Mayans do it for us.
Happy Holidays to all. Wishing you the very best of everything for 2013.
